Hi Newbie here - cudaus1
Hi,
My name is Ted. I don't know how long I will be here. I'm basically looking for info on two cars that I'm considering. I have the opportunity to buy one of two cars that my neighbor is selling. A 1995 XJ6 with 50000 K on it and a 1998 XJ6 with 100000+ k on it. My main concern, is that I'm a retired guy and really can't afford huge maintenance cost on either one one of these cars. I like the 95 more due to mileage and color( Navy Blue). The car won't be a daily driver. I would use it for a run from time to time and car shows. Am I looking for troubles ahead?
Any help that you guy's can give me would be really appreciated.
Thanks,
Ted

Welcome to the forums Ted,
(I've moved your post from the end of NaeOver's Intro to a new one of your own.)
Headline first - the 1995 is simpler and one of the most robust and reliable Jaguar's produced. Now for the detail ......
Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xj-xj6-xjr6-x300-26/ to the X300 forum for help, advice and information on the 1995. A 1998 should be a similar looking vehicle but with a V8 engine - an XJ8 and not an XJ6. If so, follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xj-xj8-xjr-x308-27/ to the X308 forum for information on the 1998. The 'HOW TO' threads at the top of each are a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the US Lower Atlantic Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/u...r-atlantic-66/ to find other members in your region.
Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.
Enjoy the forums.

Hello, Ted,
Besides what GGG and Grant have mentioned, the '95 with merely 50,000 miles on it will be just now loosened up and well broken in. Most everything that might go wrong should have already done so and been resolved. At this point, with proper care and feeding you might expect at least another 50,000 miles, and maybe even twice that before something Really serious needs dealt with..

Thanks so much for your helpful reply. I should know within the next week where I'm going with this car.
Have a great day,
Ted
