Default intro - hello from socal 2009 xf 44k oil change question

recently purchased 2009 xf premium luxury with 44k on it. my first jag and i'm loving it.

the only issue i have so far is the infamous dashboard leather coming loose - thanks to info on this forum - I'm not feeling so overwhelmed by it.

to be honest i'm a bit nervous about doing anything to it - seems there are multiple issues to be considered before undertaking any repair or maintenance.

I'm disappointed to hear that even the jag dealerships aren't necessarily the "best" at providing correct info or professional competent service but i suppose that could be said of other make car dealerships as well.

i want to change the motor oil and cant really find a solid answser as to what type of oil i should use that meets all the specs in the owner's manual. can someone recommend a brand of oil? and should i use synthetic? unfortunately my mechanical knowledge is limited.

thanks in advance for any advice on the issue - I'm excited about being a part of the forum.

Welcome aboars.

The first thing you will need to do is give some more info on your new beast.

V6, V8, S/charged maybe.

That will define the oil or anything else.

The XF Tech section will have the answers, and it may even be in the "stickies" at the very top of that section.
