Default Intro a MUST

I have just acquired a 1988 XJ6, which I presume is an XJ40 based on the VIN. I have filled the hydraulic system mineral reservoir oil twice (approximately 1.5 L total) to turn red to green on the indicator (is the capacity of this system noted anywhere?).This has made the warnings on the VCM display go away. I am working on the problem of both the left and right rear tail lights (bulbs burned out), brake lights, and turn signals not working. I have read possible soldering fixes on the forum and a mention of relay and bulb failure module replacement. I have not contacted a dealer yet to see if new modules are available, and have found some used modules on line. Any comments from members on a path of least resistance (no pun intended) and least cost? Thanks. I am located in the Milwaukee area thus January repairs are challenging.
