Default Introduction

Hello everyone. I worked at a Jaguar dealership here in Dallas, Texas for about 5 years. That was around 16 years ago. I recently purchased a Jaguar XJ8 L with 145k miles on it. I got it at a very good price because it has a BAD oil leak at the front seal. Since i really do not have much experience on this model due to retiring shortly after this car came to market i have several questions.
First i am planning on replacing the chains, tensioners and guide rails. I believe in replacing parts with the highest quality parts I can. I want to know what the best timing chain kit is and the highest quality chain. I would like to replace the radiator, water pump and thermostat while i am doing the chains. I am contemplating the hoses depending on prices. I have also read that the harmonic balancer is a problem and I would like to replace that also. I started the engine and noticed light clatter from the engine which I believe is the timing chain and guides. The oil leak is coming from the front seal.
I would like to know the best chain, guides and tensioners and if you could be so kind as to where to get them. Where can i get a decent deal on a harmonic balancer, radiator and the best water pump? What kind of special tools do i need to get? If anyone knows anything that would help me to make this as high a quality repair as possible it would be greatly appreciated. What gasket sets will i need? What type of coolant should be used?
When i started the car i noticed the ABS/Stability control light stayed on. I have a small code reader that reads engine codes only, is there a way to read ABS codes without a code reader?
Looking for help. Thank you in advance.
I forgot to mention the car is a 1999 year model XJ8 L 4.0L.

I'll answer your latest post as you have duplicated here. Maybe Windows 10?

Anyway, Congratulations on your 'new' Jaguar!

Welcome.

I suggest a quickie repost of the tech side of the questions in the X308 section, where you will get answers. There are also many "stickies" at the top of that section with How To Do advice, and I reckon the chain work will be in there.

One of the Moderators will sort this for you when the planets align a tad better.
