Default Introduction

Hello all,

Just a short intro to comply with the rules. I have recently purchased Ms Maybe, a 1998 XK8 convertible. She is named so due to the electrical/sensor systems and their inconsistent operations. Other than that she is a great running car.

About me: owner and Sr Mechanical Engineer of my consulting company in the Tampa Bay Area of Florida. Enjoy troubleshooting things but take the car to the shop for the heavy work. Currently dealing with the Valet mode stuck on and the black key not unlocking the trunk. Bought a fob but it seems the system will not enter learn mode. I suspect there is more to be learned by me before I outsmart Ms Maybe.

Thanks
Becky

Welcome to the Forums.

These little things make life less boring.

The members in the XK8/XKR (X100) Tech Section will have answers.

Good luck.

Welcome to the forums Becky,

Good to have you with us.

I can see you've already found your way to the XK8/XKR forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the US Lower Atlantic Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/western-us-ak-ca-nv-ut-hi-wa-id-38/ to find other members in your region.

Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Hello, Becky,
Congratulations on your new Jaguar!
It's behaving that way just to get your attention. Jaguars do that, ya know.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Good morning ElinorB,

How is all on the west coast?
Thank you for the congrats. Ms Maybe is a lovely car and she truly lives up to her name. It's always a guess if the driver's door is going to unlock on the first or ? try without setting off the alarm. LoL She is definitely after my attention while teaching me patience. My top priority is to get the trunk to unlock (accidently set the Valet option). The black key doesn't work with the lock on the trunk door. Can't seem to get her to program a key fob. "Maybe" a trip to the dealer.

Wonderful assortment of names you have for your fleet. Love them all!

Hello Clarke,

Thank you for the welcome.

Certainly are beautiful cars you have on the front lawn. Your XJS reminds me of the first Jag I owned; purchased new 1989 XJS coupe. Beautiful car white exterior with the navy blue interior.

Enjoy your wheels.

Hi Grant,

Thank you for the welcome. It is the little things that make Jags so wonderful to own and drive. Even the '89 XJS Coupe when new would short out the window switches and relays if one attempted to operate them when the glass was damp. Just life.
