JagJunkie....New member. Salem Oregon
Hello. I finally joined after a year + of snooping around. I bought my Jaguar in 1991 from a broker. It had 60,000 miles on it then and has 75,000 miles on it now.
The story goes like this: The Jag was being driven from Bend, Oregon to Portland, by the widow of the original owner who had recently died. On the way, the fan belt broke, the car was towed to Monte Shelton. The widow traded the car in on a new jag and the XJ12 was sold to a broker.
The day I bought it in Portland, icy roads were everywhere. I paid $7,000 for it.
I was a mechanic at British Motors in SF, when Kjell Qvale was in charge, and when the v12 was introduced in 1972, I told myself, as a lowly mechanic, who could not afford one, that one day I would have one. That opportunity came along on a winter day in 1991.
What a sweet ride. Except for the hides (stitching coming out) the car is in like new condition. I have replaced all the rubber (including the fuel hoses), new rack and pinion, starter, water pump etc................
I feel so bad for the folks that have put Chevy engines in these cars, as it totally destroys the entire "feel" sound and smoothness of the car. I owned a chevy powered xj for awhile, but I sold i very quickly--might as well put some squirrels under the hood.
