Longtime Jaguar fan in Federal Way, Washington. My first was a '79 XJS that was hit by a dump truck. insurance uprated me to an beautiful 86 XJS but at my young age I could not afford the upkeep and the license tabs in Washington at the time were $600 a year. That was in 1996. I was sadly forced to sell it. Fast forward to the present day and you will find me working to restore a newly acquired 2001 S Type 4.0. I have done a lot of the work so far on the usual common fails , heater valve, aux water pump, AC module, ground issues, rebuilt the headlights with new adjusters and polished the lens', LED bulbs etc. solved the overheating issue - some bonehead actually stuck a metal plate in place of the thermostat that restri9cted almost 90% of the flow. That and I am guessing that they removed the overflow tank at one time because while changing the fuel filter I notice the main coolant hose (underneath the overflow tank) was folded over and had a 90° right angle bend in it so it wasn't passing any water either. Add those to the Wall of Shame. I really , really want an STR but picking up this one for only $800 I couldn't pass it up. Besides it came with a spare motor and tranny. and loads of extra parts from another S Type
