Default Jaguar XJ8 Executive 2001 Safety Mode Issue

Hi Everyone.

My dad has a Jaguar XJ8 Executive 2001 which keeps going into safety mode. He has taken it too many places over the years but has never been able to fix it. It has been off road for quite a few years now and i know it it breaks his heart to see it stuck on the drive constantly. Is there anyway someone can help at all i know he would absolutely love to get it going again?

Regards.

Josh.

Welcome to the forums Josh,

I presume this 'safety mode' is Resticted Performance where the engine revs are limited and an amber or red warning appears in the message centre? If this is the case (and crucially, nothing else such as the clatter of valves hitting pistons) it requires a Code Reader or Scantool to determine the possible causes. Also, if the vehicle has been standing unused for a lengthy period, it will almost certainly need a new battery.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xj-xj8-xjr-x308-27/ to the X308 forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.
