Talking Just got my 2005 XJR home

Hi Everyone,

I'll start by thanking you for any advice, wisdom or help you are able or willing to provide - I'm going to need it.

I am now the proud owner of a 2005 XJR with 53k miles on it.
But... it needs a good bit of work. Just drove it Detroit to Washington D.C - roughly 520 miles

A few known issues/ deferred maintenance items I've discovered since purchasing it from the owner:

It came with the Sepang rims but they are beat to hell - front passenger has a bad bend in the rim, yikes. Hello vibration !

Bushings on control arms on all 4 corners look like they were just hit with a missile - blown to bits.
Likely any rubber bushing of on the suspension needs replacing.

The car would overheat almost instantly out of nowhere - at first I suspected coolant issues, now I'm not so sure.
No steam or visible issue present, the valley hoses are intact and I was not loosing coolant either?
I waited 20 -30 mins on average every-time and always pulled over immediately when the issue arose, probably a total of 6 - 7 times on this maiden voyage.

Found a loose knock sensor floating in the engine bay - I'm sure it's a knock sensor, looks like someone did not put it back in the right spot.
It's plugged straight into the harness and is a perfect match for what I found on parts geek.

Uh did the serpentine belt at some point on my way home and it didn't get rid of the reoccurring and seemingly random instant overheating.
Coolant was mostly flushed out when the belt was swapped, It was burped multiple times.

The heat doesn't work any longer for some reason? I want to say since the belt and coolant was swapped?

The power plant seems healthy as there are no odd noises, vibrations or metal in the previous oil - I had it swapped before the trip.

Sorry for the long post and thanks again for any insight or advice you can provide as I work to restore this beaut.

Hello, Tiger,
Congratulations on your new Jaguar XJR!
And, Good Onya for Driving it home instead of having it shipped. Some new owners don't understand that this very act is a Critical part of the Bonding Process, necessary for new ownership of Any car, but Jaguar especially.

Members of our XJR section will be Delighted to guide, advise and help you any way they can.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!
Will take my questions to the x350 forums for sure.
Yes the difficult but worthwhile maiden voyage was a bonding experience.
Now to get the beast back on the road!

Cheers!
