Default Loose Light Switch

I'm restoring 1986 Jaguar XJ6 that's been garaged for the last 17 years and found the light switch (master, left side of dash) loose. I've been told its a loose screw, and that entire dash has to be removed to tighten. Is there a simpler solution?

Thank you. I'll post in XJ6 forum. Is there a way to remove this post?

Welcome to the foruum eggdoc,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

No need to remove your post from here.

I can see you've already found your way to the XJ6 & XJ12 Series I, II & III forum with this issue so there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Midwest Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-midwest-39/
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Default I don't get the small ball back in the switch.

Hi all,

I cleaned the switch and trying to get it back together but I spend already 1 hour at this project! It doesn't seem to work? What do I do wrong?

It's all apart now.

So, i answered my own questions. For all of you, I am just an software / it / sales guy, never been a mechanic, so I try to fix my Jaguar 3 series myself.
I spent 3.5 hours on the light switch. I know insanely much, but i did not had experience with this before.

Here´s what I did:

- Followed the hints above and dismounted the switch:

- Then I took the switch apart and cleaned / sand the whole copper part and took away the old stiff lubricant

- Clean and fresh:

- Then i spent an insane amount of time mounting it back together. I had to find out the hard way that you have to dismount the small clip at the bottom that keeps the SPRING and the small ball in place.
Then assemble everything together and it will directly work. (now i can do it in 30 min).

- For the first time I have interior lights and normal lights. I just saw that one left bulb is broken. That will be my next project.

I thought maybe this will be usefull for someone. To see whats happening!
