Smile My first car is a Jag

Hi!

Thank you for taking a peek at my introduction!

I'm Joe, 26 years old & living in Cheltenham, UK.

I'm a late starter to motoring (having just passed my test a few months ago) - so I thought I would start off with a small and sensible first car

...then I bought a 1999 XJ8 Sport (3.2L) instead!

it's already been a bit of a headache, but I wouldn't rather have anything else!

I'm hoping this forum will give me the knowledge I need to make my Jag look & run like it's supposed to.

So here is my £750 XJ8 (99k miles):

Done so far:

- New spark plugs, brakes, pads & tires

Problems I'm hoping to fix:

- Won't start if left unused for a couple days
- Sagging roof-lining
- No kick-down response
- Center console lid (the little ashtray one) stopped opening
- Cigarette lighter not working (when the lid opened so I could get to it!)
- No indicator noise (dashboard speaker gone)
- Rev counter bulb gone
- Exhaust fumes occasionally only come out of left side!?
- Little dent beside the hood ornament
- One of the bulbs in the center brake light gone
- No cupholder in the center console!
- Coolant looks worryingly brown

So, as you can see there is a lot for me to do/learn and I'm looking forward to it!

If you have any experience with the problems mentioned above I would love your advice on setting them right

Cheers!

99K miles should be only just well broken in! Your car has definitely suffered from neglect in its past life. Time and attention will be needed to get everything back on track again, but when you get to that point, you'll be bonded with it and it will give you many more thousands of miles of trouble free driving.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forum Joe,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I can see you've already found your way to the X308 tech forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the UK & Eire Region forum by following this link UK & Eire - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.
