Default My first jag

Hi folks
I'm LaMarr. I recently purchased a 2015 jaguar xf here in sacramento. No problems at all until alternator needed replacement. Since replacement car starts and runs. When you attempt moving, steering wheel will shimmy. Diagnosis showed no issues yet the computer will not recognize the new alternator

Welcome to the Forums.

Sounds odd, but it is what it is.

Members in the XF Tech Section may have answers.

Your Year Model is at a change point, X250 or X260, and 2015 Build Date is the key.

Good luck.

I'll find it and get back to you. It's just so odd - I mean the car runs fine until you put it in gear. Diagnostic found nothing. My guy is a general mechanic and was the end of his knowledge. He says take it to jaguar and have them reset the computer so it recognizes the new alternator and begins charging the battery. I ove the car, that said, had I known this l wouldn't have bought it.

Welcome to the forums WhiteCat driver,

As Grant has remarked, the two XF models are very different.

The alternator should be a straightforward replacement on either the early (2007 - 2015) or current (2015 onwards) XF. However, you are likely to have had a discharged battery as a result of the failure and this could require a BMS (Battery Monitoring System) reset on the current X260 model. This is a dealer level diagnostics task but I'd first fully charge the battery (off the vehicle) and give it another go.

Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Hello, LaMar,

Welll, now I know I drive a 2015 jaguar xf (x250). That said, I am not a cheap skate. I just don't understand what the dealership is going to do software wise for 225.00
I mean to sy the car runs. I'm not driving because codes won't clear. 225.00 to depress a reset button? Come on, man.

Default Full disclosure

Not sure if I'm conflating different issues and possibly exacerbating a minor problem. The car starts normally, in park, it sounds as good as when I bought it. Put it in gear and it doesn't recognize the alternator change. Message to park immediately.

That is to say, the car WORKS fine. They want to charge me 225.00 for...what? This is such absolute usury.

Default Secret DVD input

Hi folks
Visiting jaguar usa I found that the navigation systems are updated/reset via DVD and even over Wi-Fi. I know it in my heart that's also the "secret sauce " they have that sadly, I do not. Can you verify that "such is the case"?
