My First Jag Experience - 2002 Jaguar X-Type
Hello everyone, I'm Landon.
So this is my first Jaguar. It came about in a pretty random way.
For the past 5 years I rented out extra rooms in my condo for monthly income when I lived in Regina Canada. Recently I sold my place & moved in with my partner in Craven Canada. With the lack of rental income & to satisfy my inner capitalistic desires, I thought "I know! I'll just go to my local auto auction and pick up a nice looking car, tack on $1,000 and sell it".
Well that was how I found my red 2002 Jaguar X-Type. 85,000 miles on the odometer, brand new winter tires, all-wheel drive, heated seats. How could I go wrong?
Well, I drove it.
Oh my goodness! It was the best feeling ever! Absolutely awesome first impression. I couldn't stop smiling! Something about the car just made me giddy & all I could think of was "Don't fall in love. Don't get attached! You bought this just to flip & make some extra cash."
That happened over a month ago. I did initially list it for sale but then when I discovered that it needed some service, the prospect of making a profit evaporated ($900 parts+labour repair for vacuum & intake seals), & really... am I ever going to go back to my Chev Aveo after a taste of Jag? Especially now that, for some weird reason, everyone in my town/work/family seems to know I drive one. Nah, I don't think so!
The way I'm thinking, a lot of people spend big money for a nice car here in Canada compared to what the X-type has to offer. I just hope the Jag will be relatively reliable for my 60 mile round-trip commute to and from the city (so far so good, but there is a very isolated engine misfire that sometimes happens at medium speeds when I put my foot into it. I have it booked for another service at my independent shop on December 2nd).
So far I'm loving those heated seats and all-wheel-drive!

Hello, Landon,
Admit it! You're Smitten! That happened the Moment you DROVE IT!!
You should be aware, if you're not already, Cats are NOT cheap dates, especially when they're been unloved (85,000 miles should be only well broken in, just entering prime).
You're playing Catch-Up now, but if you stick with it, you will be rewarded with a Very pleasing automobile.
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Hello & welcome . I too bought my first X ( Red ) as a random winning bid at auction . I too intended on selling on for profit . However after fixing an ABS & O2 sensor fault , plus some tyres I though I might just keep it . I kept it for a year & swapped it for my current Jag Racing Green X " Spirit " .....Enjoy your X & The forums.
