Hi I recently purchased a 1998 XJ8 Sport with 54400 miles. It has the usual rust on the wings so I’ve bought a second hand one but not in colour so it needs painting. I’m slowly working my way round seeing what I need to do.
I already have a question in relation to the wiper blade and how to get a replacement which accommodates the screen wash mount as one I bought from Halfords fouled it and the blade didn’t sit on the windscreen properly.
mom happy with the car so far but it keeps throwing up warnings one about a rear build failure which I’ve checked and they’re all fine but the other is a gearbox fault which puts it into limp mode but clears after stopping and switching everything off. I’ve had the car four weeks and it’s done it twice I’m hoping it’s just a gremlin and will sort itself out. Happy to hear your thoughts and advice. I’m in the UK so any parts have to be available here for me.
Take Care Stay Safe Everyone Regards Dave👍😎🏴 Just before I bought it with algae and moss growing on it.
Weird electronic faults are often caused by a partially discharged or failing battery. Check and eliminate this before going for more complex (in Jaguar terms, that means more expensive) possible causes. A poor ground (earth) connection on tail lamp units sometimes triggers a warning. Wiper rubbers are available separately from Jaguar. I use this option instead of replacing the entire blade.
Hello, Dave,
Congratulations on your First Jaguar! Not a bad looking car from here, algae and moss hardly show at all.
As Graham says, try a proper new battery First before you get tense and start throwing real money at the car. Almost all modern cars and certainly Jaguars are very persnickety about their battery condition. Then, mom can DRIVE THE WHEELS OFF!
The car will thank you both for such kind attention.
