Default My XJS adventure begins (hopefully).

Hello All,
Well I just won an auction for a 1996 XJS with 55,000 miles on it. Although I had been looking into available XJS cars I had not expected to go the auction route. I came across the auction online and placed a bid the next day. I somewhat unexpectedly won the auction. I wired the payment to the auction house yesterday. I live in upstate NY and the XJS is in Minnesota. I am having a bit of a problem coordinating the shipping of the vehicle but hope to work that out in the next few days. I will post as I make progress in actually taking possession of this beautiful vehicle.
I had a 1989 Mercedes-Benz 560sl for ten years that I recently sold and I did not realize how much I would miss it. The XJS should more than fill the void.

It was delivered a couple of days ago and it is beautiful. There are a few pieces missing..There is no boot cover. No battery/relay box cover in the trunk. No bolts for the battery hold down clamp. No owner's manual. It will be a winter project trying to hunt some of those items down.
There was also no title but I am assured it is on the way. I am optimistic.

I just came back from the Motor Vehicle Dept after finally registering the car. It is pouring rain so I will wait to tomorrow to drive it and will have the state inspection done. My fingers are crossed.

You're getting there but I'll bet you never expected this length of time when you won the auction!

Actually the car was laid up in the garage for the winter. I was not going to expose it to the ice, snow and salt of our roads. Tomorrow will be the first time I have driven it further than the end of my driveway since it was delivered.

Belated welcome. I hope your test drive is successful. Don't forget to check under the hood before you take off, no telling what you may find!

It was only two years ago when I bought the XJS but in these unusual times a lot has happened. My wife and I moved from Saratoga Springs, NY to Hailey, Idaho. We were downsizing in our search for a house out here and would not have proper space for the Jaguar plus I did not think there would be many mechanics familiar with the XJS so I reluctantly sold it at the Saratoga Auto Auction.
Well we wound up buying a house with a three car garage and the open spaces out here were really calling out to me to fill the void left by my ill advised decision to sell the XJS. There are not many Jaguars in this area but I found a 2006 XK8 convertible with 48,000 miles on it in Montana. I drove up there with my wife to look it over. It looked in good condition so we pulled the trigger and I drove it the 400 miles home. I will put it away for the winter after getting to enjoy it for a few weeks but we are already making plans for next spring for a possible road trip up the Pacific Coast Highway.

I had to Google 'Hailey, Idaho' and the first photo showed lots of snow so I understand why you will be putting the XK8 away for the Winter. Looks a beautiful part of the country.

I've owned two XK8's and both were great cars. You will find it an easier model to run than an XJS which almost demands more 'hands on' or independent expertise. If you do get to take the trip up PCH, I'll be expecting a post with plenty of photos. It's one of my dream drives that I'll never get to do.

Hello, Harro,
Congratulations, first on your 'recent' move to the Open Spaces of Idaho, and, on your Latest Jaguar!
I'm not a little surprised you found a Jaguar in Montana!! Maybe in the Kalispell area?

You will simply Love the Pacific Coast Highway.

Thanks, GGG and LnrB,
Yes, the Xk8 was located just south of Kalispel on Flathead Lake. You must really know Jaguar demography.

I grew up in Montana, had relatives in Kalispell.
Lost of money in that area when I was a kid visiting. That's about the only place I would think in Montana one would find any Jaguar.
