Default New 2002 X-Type 2.5 AWD owner!!

Hey guys!

New member here and owner of a 2002 2.5 X-Type AWD with only 31k on the clock!, and I have a couple questions.

I come from an import background dealing with RX-7 rotaries and also own an Audi B5 A4 Avant, but my main questions are from an appearance standpoint with this X-Type. What can we do to these things?

I have that really nice light blue color with the beige almost white interior. I was thinking of buying smoked out side markers, but I cant find any like you can for Audi. I also will add xenon right away, with a kit from DDM Tuning, they are great, lifetime warranty, all the Audi and BMW guys use them.

But what else is there? is the nav unit worth upgrading to? I found some on ebay. Any Carbon Fiber interior pieces? All though I don't know if it would look good inside such a classy car.

Also wheels, what sizes can we fit on these bad boys, im all about flush slightly stretched tires with as low as you can go offsets. How wide can we fit on these cars without rolling fenders? I tried searching, but there isn't much, but my search efforts were mediocre at best.

Any help will be greatly appreciated, and I have my fingers crossed that I didn't buy a nightmare like I have read so many stories of.

Did some searching around, and found the FAQ section to be quite useful, some questions answered.

Thanks! yeah I cant wait to really make it my own with nice wheels and upgraded speakers and whatnot.

I pretty much read through all the wheel posts and there are no answers to my question. I need wheels that look like this -

Slightly stretched tires, agressive offset, 18" or 19"... I have yet to see a single x-type with this kind of setup. Can anyone help me out here? I have a feeling I will get responses that you cant fit this and you cant fit that, but picking the right wheel size and offset is an art form. On that red RX-7 I had 18x9 and 18x10 and nobody thought it was even possible to do it on stock bodywork, but I did.

Would this fit onto a US spec x-type?

Wankel, as for the smoked out side marker lights, no one makes them. So, if you are after some, you will need to paint them yourself. Some members have done it and the easiest way to do it is using some RC car paint called "window tint". As you can guess, it is a transparent paint that darkens the lens. With that being said, you can find some clear lens for the side marker lights (those just forward of the doors), but those are the only ones you can buy.

As for upgrading the Navi unit, keep in mind that you can't just change out the head unit and all will be done. You have to get a few other boxes to go with it, so, make sure that when you upgrade, you get the complete kit. Now, with that being said, because you have the separate A/C controls and the radio, your easier mod will be going with an aftermarket navi unit and going that route.

As for max size rims/tires, to be garanteed no rubbing, 18x8" rims are as big as you can go with some 235/35R18 tires. Some members have gone with as big as 20" rims, but from what I recall, all of them have some sort of rubbing. So, unless you want to blaze a new trail and figure out a way to make a bit more room there, your options are pretty limited.

When it comes to body upgrades, good luck. Your choices are pretty much limited to Arden. They are about the only ones that make stuff for the cars and stand by to pay a premium. Also, if you are looking for motor upgrades, I would caution against that. The transfer cases are the weak link in these cars and they are barely capable of handling the stock power, let alone bumping up the power. Not to mention there aren't many options in the way of boosting power without going custom. Yeah you have an exhaust system (again pretty much only through Arden and Borla), there is an intake system (don't recall who makes it), and I believe there is an upgraded ECU, but the power gains from that are minimal.

Unfortunately, there isn't much drive for aftermarket stuff for the X-Types. This means that the options that you have are very limited. If you have some ideas, let us know. But, again, the weak link is the transfer cases (due to excessive flexing of the transfer case exterior case, leading to cracking of the case and complete failure).

If you have an idea, bring it up here. I'm sure someone has already thought of it. If not, I'm sure we can provide some feedback. I'm always looking for ways to get more reliable power.

Welcome to the lcub.

Welcome Wankel. The lens you've linked are the side repeaters on front fender not the side markers on the bumper but you probably see that from the picture. Yes, the would work fine in place of your amber side repeaters.
