Sup Names Vic, just got a 96 xjr (SUPERCHARGED 6CYL) Kinda loving it right now. What are some things I should be cautious about? Any suggestions on taking care & maintaining the car? Thanks

Welcome aboard and congrats on the XJR.

One thing to think about is replacing the lower radiator hose. It's a huge job but if it's original, it's due for replacement...and it isn't the sort of thing you'd want to fail unexpectedly as you surely can't replace it by the side of the road.

Unless you have history to prove otherwise I'd assume the car is due for a major service and replace ALL fluids and filters, repack wheel bearings, inspect brakes, etc.

Cheers
DD

Thank you guys for the input it is much appreciated. And YES i will be getting a radar gun, this thing feels like a sleep number bed on the interstate until you mash the pedal then it wants to take off lol i love it. I know when the car was introduced to the public it was in the same class as a 5series bmw. Do you guys know where i can find aftermarket parts for the car? As in lowering springs and then engine mods for the future? No one in my city has built a xjr saloon and made it look mean. My future plans for the car is to lower it a tad bit but i want to do it right and not sacrafice too much ride comfortability, then im going to put some Nice 19x8 in the front and 19x10 in the back so the car can get that mean look. I know its a jag but now that i own one i have a whole new outlook on them lol. These things were made with the SPEEDERS in mind. ill post more pics of it here soon. Also my rear shocks need to be replaced do you guys know of anywhere i can get some nicely priced shocks? THank you guys for all the help and for welcoming me into the forum i plan on being around for a long time i think ive just found my 2nd favorite car ever lol. thanks guys

See my reply to your post in the "suspension and handling" section

Before you go hog wild with wheels and tires be aware of the notorious XJR/6 tramlining issues

Coventry West, Motorcars Ltd, or any number of other Jag vendors. Or just Google it. Lots of online vendors sell the correct Bilstein shocks. You'll probably spend $150/each or so for the proper XJR type. You might need new upper and lower bushings and cushions as well....you buy those separately

Good luck
Cheers

Tramlining is the tendency for the car to follow irregularities in the road.....the ruts caused by heavy trucks, for example. It's most likely to occur with very low profile tires.

It's a fairly common XJR/6 complaint, ranging from mild to terrifying depending on umpteen variables. If your car doesn't suffer, consider yourself lucky :-)

Tire condition and tread design, suspension condition, alignment, and wheel bearing adjustment are all factors.

Cheers
