Smile New to the forum

Hello All,

Obviously new to the forum and keen to get into the mix of things. A mate & I have just bought a couple of Jags, a 1987 XJS V12 Conv (Hess version) and a 1978 XJ12 L.

We are both from the UK but living and working in Montana, USA and decided that we wanted to find a couple of projects to keep us from the local bars at weekends! The XJS is generally in good health where as the XJ12 needs considerable work.

Any advice going forward would be extremely well received! Both the cars look to be original with the exception of the paint on the XJ12 which looks as though it has changed colour a few times. I have not managed to locate a colour code any where on the car as yet but I have a sense the original colour was silver with red leather interior.

The XJS has had a TWR body kit on from new and is in a sort of misty blue with grey interior and done 51,000 with full history.

Tim

Welcome.

With 2 V12's the chance of errant runs to the bar are ZERO. Runs to the bottle shop for supplies at the work place, will be many.

Is the '78 a LATE S2, or and EARLY S3?????.

That is a good question! It is a Series 2 (the chassis number is UJ2R59150BW), we bought it after going to buy a V12 engine and gearbox and had no idea that they had an XJ12 that has sat since 1994 at a guess.

The car is in better shape than expected though clearly needs a major rebuild! Finding the correct color would be a bonus.

Welcome to the forum Tim,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

Jaguar Heritage in Coventry hold the original factory build records and will be able to find the original specification of your XJ12. They sell this information on a certificate but have been known to answer simple questions such as body colour f.o.c. in reply to an email.

Follow this link XJS ( X27 ) - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XJS forum and this one XJ6 & XJ12 Series I, II & III - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XJ6 & XJ12 Series I, II & III forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top of each is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Lower Atlantic Region forum by following this link US Central - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum

Hello, Tim!
You're living in Montana, eh? That's where I grew up and I'm Glad to be away! All the years I was there I never saw ONE Jaguar let alone 2 in the same region let along V12s!

Those will Not keep you out of the bars, as Grant mentions they're more likely to drive you to drink if you don't already. (They will keep you busy during these LOOOOOONG winter evenings.) Parts, however, don't much care where you live as UPS and FedEx deliver everywhere.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.
