Default New Jag owner with buyers remorse

Please tell me I didn't make a huge mistake! I just bought a 2005 x-type sport with 64k miles, took it to the shop and they say it needs an alignment, drive shaft is loose and needs replaced, battery bad needs replaced, three wheels bent all need replaced, and need new tires. Dealer won't take a return and pretty much are saying its wear and tear so no warranty coverage. Is this my new future? I love driving this car I need reassurance I didn't totally screw this up.

I hate to hear stories like that! The ibvious thing is that you love the car. Your dealer deserves a swift kick. If I were you, I would at least get a second opinion on the cars needs. A bad battery; pretty common. Bad driveshaft at 64k? Sounds odd. Maybe something else there. Or, you can check out rebuilding your driveshaft by a local specialty driveshaft shop. Bent wheels? It happens. You should be able get them repaired by local wheel specialist for a reasonable amount (our guy gets about $125 each for a painted aluminum wheel and 24 hour turn around), or just see if anything pops up on Ebay or Craigslist. Tires? You must have seen the tire wear when you bought the car. No? Kumhos are cheap and wear well. Lessons learned: Try to have any used vehicle inspected by a professional third party "before" purchasing. Drive the car noting any irregularities. Don't believe anything that a salesman tells you. I say fix the car. When it's corrected, you will love it! And, I would write to the BBB about your dealer. Maybe even the local Attorney General. Hang in there!

Welcome to this friendly Forum. Sorry to hear of your problems - presumably you had the car for some time before they surfaced.
As chopr says, a second opinion is always worthwhile

Welcome to the forum bdg6065,

Not a good introduction to Jaguar ownership for you. Good advice in the above posts.

I'm wondering what prompted you to take it to the shop - electrical faults, vibration, rapid tyre wear.....?

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x-type-14/ to the X-Type section for help and advice.

Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User ID button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Please also visit the Mid West US Region section Mid West US - IL IN IA MI MN MO OH WI - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum for other members in your region.

Hope we can help get these issues resolved.

Graham

Welcome to the forum.

They all sound like items that would have been noticed with a pre-purchase inspection.

Too late now, you are probably just going to have to get them fixed unless you can find evidence of an undisclosed heavy hit.

I've had the car 1 day when I noticed after i filled it up the back end was squeaking as I drove it down the road. then yesterday morning it wouldn't start prompting the trip to the shop. in hindsight the trip to the shop should have been #1 before I signed the bottom line! but man that thing is so much fun to drive!!!

Surprised the dealer didn't give any warranty.

Welcome to the site!

As others have said, a pre-purchase inspection would have turned up these defects and maybe a few more that have yet to surface. A 7 year old car is a 7 year old car with 7 years of wear and tear on it.

I'd forget trying to get the dealer to pay for the tires and battery as cars are usually sold without any clause that these have to be 'new and unused'. Seven years life from the orignal battery is excellent and it owes you nothing.

WRT the driveshaft, I think the X type guys will tell you that there's a support bearing that goes dry and needs to be greased or replaced but it's not the end of the earth. Bent wheels? If they're not causing unusual tire wear or vibration and balancing problems, don't worry about it.

they gave me a 30 day 1000 mile warranty but only covers what is "broken" I did get them to fix the drive shaft and I'll eat the tires and wheels.

yeah I can't complain too much about a battery that lasted that long.. it did look original.. the dealer is replacing the drive shaft, which is awesome, and I'll get it an alignment and some new wheels and tires to get me through the winter.. it'll all be good, i can't wait to get her on the road!!

I'm sure you'll put this initial stuff behind you and be thrilled with the pleasure of owning a unique car.
