Default New to the Jag world

Hi guys,

I live in Utah and my name is Darin.

I just bought a used black 2012 Jaguar XF Portfolio with the sport package. This is my first Jaguar and I was a little hesitant to buy it at first due to reliability concerns. However, after driving it around for 2 weeks I don't know if I could ever go back to another car.

Hello, Darin,
So you're Smitten after a mere 2 weeks, eh? We get that a lot in here! LOL
Congratulations on your 'new' Jaguar. (Don't worry about it being your first one, everyone has a first time for everything.)

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

No, mods yet. The car I bought had 58,000 miles on it so I'm looking just giving it a full tune up. Change the brake pads, flush the brake lines, flush the coolant, change the oil, and check the plugs.

So far I'm looking at replacing the paper filters with K&N air filters and then putting a new pair of stock brake pads on.

Do you have any recommendations for oil & oil filters, brake fluid, coolant, and plugs? I've been reading through the forum and it seems like brake fluid and coolant may need to be Jaguar specific?

Brake fluid and coolant must be to Jaguar SPECIFICATION. This is not the same as saying you must use only Jaguar supplied fluids. Specs are in the Vehicle Handbook. If you don't have one, a post in the S-Type forum will soon get you the information.

As for oil, you'll find the battle rages on the forum between the Mineral and Synthetic supporters! Whichever your preference, use a quality brand and the correct weight for your climate.

I always use genuine Jaguar oil filters because the saving with aftermarket is negligible. If you do go aftermarket, make sure the filter has a non-return valve. Jaguar filters do, This is to prevent drain back when standing followed by slow pressure build up on starting.
