Unhappy new to jags (starting problem)

recently became recommitted to my 98 vdp, had the trans replaced recently then let it sit for a while due to being involved in a motorcycle accident. now it only turns wont start, just cranks. Ifigured i would start knocking down problems replaced battery, starter, fuel pump, and started to replace the coil packs and spark plugs, but then did a compression test and it wasnt right. any advice?

Do a seach on "cylinder wash" or "bore wash" and you might have the problem, as well as the solution.

If the case (and I hope so for you, as it is an easy fix), your cylinders lost compression due to the fuel spray taken away the oil layer between the piston and the cylinder.
Add some oil on each cylinder through the spark plug hole, and you should be good to go (read the various details on the "how to" in the search results, there are various threads on this issue).

Good luck,

Eric

Welcome to the forum fattyblow,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I can see you've already found your way to the X308 tech forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham
