New Jaguar owner
First Jaguar (2010 XF), for the last 25+ years I've been driving Saabs, 9000, 9-5 Aeros, 9-3 Aero. Now they are disappearing, along with availability of spares, I've moved on.

Welcome, Chouan! I will certainly be interested to read of your upcoming experiences with the XF. I've been tempted by these cars, but I act slowly and methodically gathering information on cars before I pounce. One of the many pluses I find with older vehicles is that all the warts / design faults / weakness become apparent through years of real-life usage. In a way, I sometimes look upon new vehicle buyers as guinea pigs willing to experience / risk the pains. Though obviously all cars have improved greatly over the years, its nice knowing which model years are the best to consider in a purchase of a "keeper" vehicle. Good luck with thenew acquisition!
Dear all,
just as an update. The 2010 XF and me didn't work out. I became aware, the first time that I drove it in heavy traffic, and was stationary for about 5 minutes, of a very strong smell of exhaust in the cabin. I contacted the vendor about this and they offered an immediate refund and return. The wouldn't entertain my getting the problem fixed and their helping with the cost, and they collected the car a couple of days later, having refunded me.
I bought a 2011 XF instead, which is what I have now.

Gets worse. The replacement XF showed the "Restricted Performance" message at the weekend. Diagnostic test today and a blocked MAP sensor, and then a cracked Cam cover, was discovered. Although the Warranty company should cover it, the dealer who sold me the car told me, it is a disappointing start to Jaguar ownership. My concern is that if the Cam Cover is cracked on one side, a "common problem" as the garage man told me, is the other one far behind?

Not unusual for any modern Jaguar that has been sitting in sales to throw some DTC's (and therefore go into RP mode) once the buyer starts using it but if they understand a cracked cam cover to be a "common problem", it should have been checked. I'd be making sure the other one cracked within the warranty period.

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear, it was the local Jaguar independent that I took it to for the diagnosis, a place called Jagutek that reported the cracked cam cover. I'm waiting for the dealer's warranty people to confirm authorisation of the job. I can't think of any rational reason why they won't. Jagutek have quoted me just over £1000 for the job. My heart sank!
