Default New Jaguar owner from Chicago Illinois

Good afternoon. New Jaguar owner from the Chicago Illinois area. Recently got a 2000 S-Type that needed a motor replacement. My regular shop works on them, and found a motor with 30,000 miles and picked my S-Type up today to put the new motor in. It ran with the old motor but not good enough to be more than a very local car, back and forth to the commuter train, that motor had bad head gaskets, where the coolant would not mix with oil, but instead escape thru the tail pipes and blown out past the reservoir cap. Was quite hard starting, but at least didn’t have to walk the half mile each way to get to the commuter train. The guy from my shop expects to have it done by Friday or early next week. It will be nice to finally have the type of car I always wanted, a JAGUAR, and one that runs properly. Got the car from a friend of mine as a Christmas gift, and he was going to replace motor, but then got sick and said he will pay my shop to do it. Excited to have it coming back soon and actually be the way it should be. Almost be a new car with that low mileage motor.

Hey Chicago welcome to the Forum. I was born and raised just a little South of the City. Kankakee, to be exact what part are you in. Again Welcome.

Got it back from getting its motor replaced. Talk about a sweet running car. Absolutely silent when running, and if it didn't have a tach.... would forget its running. First V6 I ever owned that didn't shake at least a little at idle. Asked the owner of the place that did motor about oil changes, and he said as long as you use synthetic, it's good for 10,000 miles as Jaguar recommends. I have always used only synthetic oil in all my vehicles, usually Amsoil or Royal Purple.... but good for 10,000 miles in the chicago area? I usually dumped it around 4,500-5,000 and never more than 6,000 miles. The oil is actually good for 10,000 miles?

Oils, in fact all lubricants, have come a loooong way in the last few years. So has automotive engineering.
10,000 miles between oil changes? You Bet!

Amsoil claims using their filter and their top level synthetic, the oil is good for 25,000. I never took that seriously. I'll probably get some filters from the dealer, unless I decide to just use the shop that did the motor, problem is he is so busy.... oil change may take 2 days.....
