Hi

Like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Dwain Mullen and my friends call me Moon.

I came here looking for answers and decided to become a member. I am the owner of two jags. I have a 1998 XJ8 and a 2000 S Type.

I am located in Harford County Md and cars are my passion. I love to figure out why things don't work and sometime create my own way of making it work.

Now with all the knowledge I can't figure out how to replace my 1998 engine with a motor from a 2000 xj8. took it all apart put it back together, back fires when 1st started, 10 mins later ran fine; only difference is that i change flywheel back to 98 car ran for a little bit back fired now car won't run. Need to know if camshaft position has any impact or do I need to change cams

Welcome to the forum Dwain,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums. If you
love to figure out why things don't work then owning two Jaguars should be perfect!

Swapping V8's between model years can give some issues. Follow this link XJ ( X308 ) XJ8 / XJR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X308 forum and this one https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...charged-v8-15/ to the S-Type forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top of each is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Mid Atlantic Region forum by following this link Mid Atlantic - MD VA DC DE WV - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Welcome, Moon! Cross-breeding Jaguars makes you our kind of owner-mechanic!
