new member
I just got around to reading the "new members" instructions WOW That was as conditional as my last IRS audit.
New to Jaguar, first in fact, and would like to thank this forum in helping me sort out the purchase. I spent about 6 months in search for the X type I bought about a month ago. I know an X Type is considered a "sorta of jag" by some, but to me it fit a purpose and so far is proving out well.
My wife and I have 5 cars, and she is a new car person, I am an old car person (cat people and dog people sort of thing ) My main ride is a 2003 Blazer with 490000 miles on it "I love old Chevy trucks" it is in perfect condition, but she was getting to the point that she refused to ride in it unless the snow was 2 foot thick.
My point is that as the world changed, I did not. A SUV in my old mind is a body on frame thing, and this was the last of the Blazer breed built that way. So I looked at everything, with the help of the help of this forum in evaluating the X Type.
3rd owner of this Jag, It never left the far north suburbs of Detroit and was traded into a dealership at 89000 miles and had a manual transmission (hard to find must have for me). It also must have been the go to the mall car, I never seen so many little dings on a car, all of them shopping carts.
First stop was new Michelin Tires, then 2 weeks in the body shop. This week was all drive fluids changed, and yes you can change the fluid in the transfer case without tearing half the car apart...Boat oil extractor with 3/16 capillary tube to get around the gear at the fill port works just fine.
For those that want to know it is 75W90 Synthetic in the Transmission and 75W140 Synthetic in the differential and transfer case.
Next week it gets new Bilstein shocks and struts with new springs all around. The clutch is good so I am not going to address the standard Jaguar oil pan leak until I need to change the clutch and associated. So now it is my "daily driver" and so far has saved 3500 miles off my truck. (My office commute is from Toledo to Chicago)
So it was this or a 2012 Impala...and I have to admit .. this is more fun. As a side note my neighbor stopped by the garage last week while I was changing some lamps on the side markers - He had a S Type Turbo unit a few years back - he pointed out that he thought the 3.0L would have been a better choice because of the additional HP. (30 more HP I guess he has a point) I dispatched him home to his wife by reminding him that when I want to go fast I take out my Vette.. he responded "that I had a good point" - clear case of Jag Envy on his part I think.
Good day folks and thanks to the forum in helping me make my selection. Driving to 250000 miles "we will see how it goes"

Welcome to the forum Terry,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums and thanks for the great Intro.
It sounds like you've already found your way to the X-Type forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
You can also visit the US Midwest Region forum by following this link US Midwest - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forums.
