Default New member 2002 S-Type 4.0

Hi

I'm just popping my head in and introducing myself. I recently acquired a very clean fairly low mileage (44K) 2002 Green S-Type 4.0. I've always liked Jags and finally broke down and bought one. My ex-wife told the kids that she wonders why I bought a car she always loved. LOL! I just could never get one when I was married as it was always about making sacrifices in our marriage.

I'll be asking questions about the AC system soon as it has been the only thing which showed possible issues. (smells like crayons and didn't work initially when I test drove it but after they refreshed the refrigerant.)

The A/C - If it hasn't been used regularly it might smell like rotten cabbages / eggs or sour milk? This can be caused by abuild up of bacteria...
There can be various remedies such as buying a can of this product and running it through your system
Halfords | Comma Aircon Cleaner
Its not expensive and leaves a lovely Lemon fresh smell

Loads going on, plenty of very friendly and helpful members as well as some excellent tech advice......all good!

In the meantime I've manually upgraded you to full forum access so you can better view the site

Thanks Jim for the warm welcome and for being upgraded! I ordered a cabin filter a couple of days ago and it arrived this afternoon. I thought the original owner may have had a kid lose a crayon somewhere in the air system. However, after breaking a couple of the plastic bolts I was able to get access to the cabin filter. I took it out and it was relatively clean looking. However, I took a sniff on it and found that it smelled exactly like crayons. I guess the dealership who did the cleaning on the engine compartment before selling it sprayed it into the air filter and it stayed. I turned the AC on and now it smells much better, however the smell in the ducts will have to get aired out soon enough. Yea! Now, to possibly deal with a possible leak in the AC as it doesn't seem to get as cool as it did when I first bought it as it was blowing warm air when I first test drove it then they recharged the system.
Cheers!

Welcome to the forum Harry,

It's a good idea to spray some Lysol or similar into the duct when you have the filter out, sorry for the late advice.

I sprayed some Windex into the opening and wiped it clean. Today it smells much cleaner, though the crayon smell still exists a bit.

Default Crayon smell

Harry,

Did you ever figure out what the crayon smell was caused by and what did you do to get rid of it?

Welcome to the forum Ony1,

Posting in an Intro thread that's more than five years old isn't the best way to get advice.

Please post a new Intro of your own with some information about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

Graham
