Hi, I'm new to Jaguar forums and wanted to introduce myself, my nane is Adam, I'm 39 and I am a motor mechanic by trade. I did my City & Guilds apprenticeship with a large Mercedes dealership in my area of Kent, UK. I worked there for 17 years and ended up at diagnostic technician level, troubleshooter if you will, for the group of their 4 branches and shift leader until I fell ill and was diagnosed with Crohn's disease. I decided to take a clerical role as Service Advisor for our local Volvo dealership where I enjoyed life on the other side of the desk for two years, heading towards Service Manager until this time last year when I found myself in an intensive care unit after a 13 hour operation, 4 days in a coma I awoke to discover that I had an irreversible colostomy bag and had contracted sepsis which tore through my body like wild fire which has ultimately halted my career in the automotive industry but has given me the gift of overwhelming gratitude to be alive and have resolved myself to be the best father and husband I can possibly be. I own a 2007 X Type 2.0 diesel in metallic black which I have loved from the very first time I drove her, she blew any of the new Mercedes I have ever driven into a cocked hat. She's not been trouble free but I am still able to wield the odd spanner, or wrench, from time to time so I almost look foreword to MOT time when I get to change the odd wheel bearing or lower suspension arm and feel free for a few hours. I have built countless engines from a bare block and can honestly say that notwithstanding seeing my children into this world and meeting my wonderful wife Emma, that those were the best days of my life, I always loved the feeling of achievement of meeting a poorly engine or ABS system and getting to the bottom of what was wrong and then putting it right. There are too many broken things in this world and I had the chance to put a few of them right. AND someone paid me for the privilege!!!
So that's me, I am happy to be here and I look foreword to making all of your aquantence in due course. I do have a couple of questions I would like to put to the right person but, all in due course...
Thank you all,
Best regards, Adam

Hello, Adam,
I'm sorry to read about all your misfortune, but I'm also glad you're making the most of what you have. I know some who could take a page from your outlook-on-life book.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome... ! I was a "Mercedes guy" for approximately four decades, until I purchased my S-type. I still have an E500, W211, but want to guess which is my "go to" car...? The Jag, of course. I think that the Jaguar's acquisition by Ford immensely helped the marque; Daimler-Benz's merger with Chrysler did Mercedes Benz no favors as it allowed the American style "bean counter" mentality to gain sway and to my mind quality suffered in the process.

Sorry to hear about your Crohn's. I have a friend who had a similar experience. Glad you made it through and have such a positive attitude!
