Hello all,
I recently purchased a 2002 Jaguar XJ8 Vanden Plas with 121,000 miles on it. Car is pretty solid and rust free but has suffered from neglect and deferred maintenance over the years. Clean Carfax but repairs and maintenance are suspiciously absent. Previous owner(s) must have done their own work like myself. I'm currently rehabbing from rotator cuff surgery and have nothing better to do than surf this forum and YouTube for the time being. The advice here has been invaluable and I appreciate all your help.
The thing that I am finding shocking with this car is how much prices on parts and labor can vary from one place to another. For example, I could not find a local locksmith to make me a key copy (I have one working key) and the local dealer wanted $600 plus a six week wait. I found a place in Kent England (www.keysinthepost.com) who cut two unprogrammed transponder keys and shipped them to me in four days for $76. I still have to get them programmed, but at least if I lock my keys in the car and the battery dies I can retrieve them.
Different example, my local tire store wanted $1,800 to install four shocks on the car. I went online because I thought the parts might be expensive but found them for $31 each with next day shippingincluded. Why is it that when you say Jaguar they add an extra zero at the end of the price?
Enough of my venting. Hopefully I will be able to help others on this site the way they have helped me.
I think there is a joke thread here somewhere but I'll post my new joke here.
The British have found a cure for COVID - they gave it a Jaguar part number and now you can't get it anymore.

Welcome to the forums FredA101,
Good to have you with us. I hope the recuperation from surgery is going well.
I can see you've already found your way to the X308 forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the US Lower Atlantic Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/u...r-atlantic-66/ to find other members in your region.
Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.
Enjoy the forums.

Hello, Fred,
This is the real killer of Jags, or in fact any car as you're no doubt aware. Little annoyances are allowed to Grow into major problems the owner then doesn't want to mess with.
I can't think of a better way to spend recoup time.
YES!! It's like they think you're suddenly made of money! However, the Third Rule of Acquisition plainly states, "Never Pay More Than You Have To."
