Default New member from Germany, XJ Super V8 Portfolio

Good evening all from Germany,
new guy Chris here, now a proud owner of a 2006 XJ Super V8 Portfolio, that I bought three weeks ago from a used car dealership in south Germany that was selling it for the previous owner who now resides in Croatia. I hope I don’t have to deal with that car dealer again, ever, as he was quite a scumbag, but I really wanted the car. The VIN is G50708
Driving home the next day raised some questions like a knocking noise when starting the engine (did someone say scumbag?) but the car is being worked on right now locally.

At the hotel car park the morning after I bought it

Note, there is no Portfolio badge on the bonnet, although the car has all the other features of one

Hi Graham,

thanks for providing all those links. Very informative and interesting.

We’re trying to find out what’s causing the knocking noise. Actually it’s more a rattling sound. My guess is it’s the s/c coupler but the shop owner think it’s a loose timing chain. I will hopefully find out next week.

They are both known issues but if it's only on starting and then goes away, it could be an aftermarket oil filter without an 'anti drain' valve increasing the time for oil pressure to build up on cold starting.

Did you want your avatar horizontal/landscape or was the image taken on a smartphone/tablet?

Graham,

my avatar was taken with an iPhone. I was going to fix it later, but if you can take care of that, I would be extremely grateful.

I’ll start a thread in the X350 forum listing all the ‘question’ I have on this car.

Chris,

Rotated.

iPhone sets an orientation attribute for an image which cannot be recognised by this and many other forums. Displays OK on the phone but everything is stored in landscape and that's how it then shows on the forum.

Thanks! Something to look out for as all of my pictures are taken on my iPhone.
