New member to the Jaguar family
Hello everyone,
I'm based in the Detroit Metro Area, MI and I'm a new member to the Jaguar family. I recently purchased a 45000-mile 2015 Jaguar XF 3.0 Sport AWD from FL which doesn't have the "bulge" on the headlights so I'm assuming I bought the X260 body style (Please correct me if I'm wrong). I was reading up a little on the X260 forum and I read something about a steel vs aluminum body. Someone mentioned that for my YoM, make, model I'd have the steel body because it's a US (and not European) vehicle. I'd appreciate some light being shed on this matter just for future reference/repairs/general knowledge.
I'm not new to working on cars but I'm kind of new to the software aspect of cars (besides using a generic OBD scanner), especially Jaguars. I've been reading up a little on the JLR SDD software, the cables available, the different protocols used by the software to interface with the cable and vehicle but it's mostly mumbo jumbo to me at this newbie stage. I'm not new to building PCs but would like to learn some more/be put in touch with people that are knowledgable about the SDD software/cables/protocols in order for me to get started messing with my new car. It would be good to know what I can do at home with a cable, SDD software, and a laptop before taking the car to the dealer and paying big bucks.

Welcome to the forums jaytee,
The current 2015 onwards X260 is an all aluminium body so if you have the steel bodied version, it will be a 2007 - 2015 X250. Model Year is often confusing because the US assigns this as the year of sale. We regularly hear of US based Jaguars with a MY shown as two or more years after production ceased. The only way to be certain what you have is by the VIN.
Please add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Hello,
Congratulations on your new Jaguar!
*Many* modern cars have become virtual rolling computers and you either have to be a software engineer to work on them or a Very Expensive computer!
