New Member - late intro.
Hello,
This isn't my first post on the forum. I have been here a few months and rudely didn't introduce myself. My name is Drew and I live in the Raleigh-Durham area of North Carolina, US. Currently I have a 1999 XJR with 68K and a 1999 XJ8 with 92K. I have owned Jaguars since 2012 when I bought a 1999 XJ8L that I recently sold with 135K. I was shocked that the cars I drooled over in high school were now cheaper than a 10 year old Civic so I figured I would take a chance and have not regretted it. I even convinced my dad to pick up a 1998 XJ8 (that he relies on me to maintain).
My love of British cars came from my dad who had a 1974 TR6 and a 1994 Range Rover Classic LWB. My first car was a 1989 Sterling 827S that was a hand me down from my dad. It wasn't the best intro to British cars but the interior and handling had me hooked, crazy electronics and fading paint aside.
IMO the X308 was the last real XJ with the classic styling combined with a true modern V8. The issues are well known and all correctable. I have had 0 major problems even with the ZF trans. Nikasil problems aren't really problems anymore with high sulfur gas phased out, in the US at least. Regular maintenance prevents most ills. I'd imagine there is a debate about the last true XJ with some saying XJ6 and some saying series III. I know there isn't really a correct answer I just believe the X350s were too Ford corporate looking and less distinguishable from everything else. They seem to have lost some of the Jaguarness in the pursuit of more interior and cargo room. No offense to x350 owners.
Anyways, rambling on here. I have been accessing this forum for years before joining. This is an invaluable resource saving me thousands in repairs and hours of guess work. Thank you to all the knowledgeable posters on this forum for sharing your wisdom!

Welcome to the forum Drew,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
I can see you've already found your way to the X308 forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
Enjoy the forums.
Graham
