Default New member and new problems!

Hi new used Jaguar XK8 owner. I have a lot of questions, I hope I can get some guidance... I have already done the GPS to Garmin upgrade. Problems: the double sided tape slips in the heat, causing the screen to sink. The brown and green wire, recomended in the video, has no power. Anyone know which fuse it goes to?

Next is my power top! Seems to have a small leak on the drivers side. Still with the brown fluid, and running low in the reservoir. I didn't see the electrical attachments on top of the pump, and broke one off. Now top does not go down. I could use some advice about this. Not too sure if my fix on the pump worked, and am just low of fluid, or I need to send the pump in for repairs? The hoses are the original and are shedding their rubber coating. Can i clean it out and use some dextron vi to test it and find the leak? Or would it be better just to try to pump it out and add in the new CHF 11?

Thanks!

welcome to the forum - you will find plenty of info and support here.

If the black on the hoses is crumbling, it is just a matter of time until the hose pops out of the connectors. Cabriolet Hydraulics or Top Hydraulics can provide replacement hoses at a fraction of the cost of Jaguar. Check with either on pump repairs

For issues with your XK8, stop by the XK8/R section and check out the numerous How to's, downloads, etc.

I went with some silicone glue, let it dry flat. It seems to be working! Thanks!

Default Thanks....

Thanks for all the greetings! I was hoping to get to the direct links more quickly. I am a bit put aback by the ten posting requirement. I have read throuh the new Jag primer, and a couple of the updates... long before i signed up here.

I am looking to replace one of the solenoids on the convertible top. I don't need to have a whole new pump, or have my pump rebuilt. Just the blue dot solenoid. I would be also interested in having mine fixed. I did not see the connection wire on it and broke iit off.

Another problem is the radio. AM works, CD changer is good (except on road bumps), FM ... no FM. I think it worked at the auto lot. It scans for stations, but does not find any... ever. I have a code for the radio, but it does not ask for one. I have not lost power. It has buttons for a phone, but I have no idea it this Jag has one. Old news now, I have a cell phone. I have checked every fuse I can find, all seem good. The two in the door jams one in the engine bay, one in the trunk.

Next, I did the GPS Garmin swap. All is good there except the white with red stripe wire. This is supposed to power up on start. I am getting no power. Above I mentioned the brown with green stripe. That wire is next to the white/red wire and has power. I also found the wires in under the center box. Where does the white with red get power or have a fuse? Anyone know? I am pouring through what schematics I can find and will on the CD repair manual I ordered from Jollly old England, via Ebay.

I see you have a fine community here and I hope to be part of it. I saw one video of a guy who pulled the video screen off of a double din radio and extend the connectors to have it fit in the GPS screen area. I used to try this kind of thing with CB radios, but never had any luck with it. I suggest using a single din dvd, with a pop out screen. I will probably try it soon, if I cannot get the FM to work. The screen may not have room with the shifter in park... I'll let you know.
