Default New member from NJ - 1989 XJ6

Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum and Jaguars as well. I am a card carrying BMW club member who fell into a deal on an 1989 Jaguar XJ6 (XJ40) and couldn't pass up the deal. She only has 77k miles on her but needs a little TLC. The items that require attention:

Low Brake Pressure warning lit up
Drivers side outside door handle is hanging out
Needs headliner
Center console wood trim needs replacement
Seats need conditioning but are not shot by any way
Wiper arm not moving but motor is working (stripped arm?)

I put a new battery in it and it seems to run well. I drove it a total of 100 feet behind my shop. It has been sitting for about a year. I hope to bring it back into shape. I surprised my wife when I said "I bought a Jag today" - I brought her by to see it last night in the rain. She is looking forward to driving it once I get it squared up. The body is nice and the paint should wax up nicely. The interior is 85% nice so the little things I can take care of like the headliner.

I have been involved with BMW's since 2002 and own two 1977 320i's but have had everything from a 1976 2002 through 3, 5, and 7-Series of various years of the 80's and 90's. I am not opposed to getting my hands dirty or cut up for the sake of a repair.

I am looking forward to picking your brains and experience on this car.

PS - My uncle had a gorgeous 1953 XK120 DHC restored to Concours condition several years ago. I have to find pictures to post. He won several Concours awards with the car.

Welcome to the forums
Pre Ford era Jaguars seem less reliable but it's a Jaguar
Enjoy your ride and don't forget the pics

Welcome JT good to see another older Jaguar on the site. You'll find lots of info in the xj6, xj40, and xjs sections, not forgetting the Detailing and Interiors depts.

Look forward to some pics of all your classics, when you can.

JT, sounds like jaguar ownership is in your bloodlines...glad you couldn't fight it off any longer. We'd love to see a pic or two of both yours and the XK120 the uncle has stashed away. Its eye-candy for us around here....that and Girls on Cars/Jags of course.

A welcome from sunny Texas!

Thanks for all of your advice. It is greatly appreicated. Headliners I have replaced before so thats not a worry but I will check out the video. My main concern is the door handle and the accumulator. I need a couple more posts before I can set up pictures so hopefully in the next couple days I can get some of the XJ as well as the XK of my uncles.

Oh and H20boy, if I wanted to see Girls on Cars, I'll put my wife on the hood of this one. I don't need to see that post, she is all the eye candy I need.

JT.....You seem like a genuine guy / Jag enthusiast.
I'll upgrade your membership straight away...The limits are there for reasons I'm sure you're aware of

Yes, I am aware of those "reasons". Thank you very much. I should have some pictures posted in the next couple days.

I finally found pics of my Uncle Rons 53 XK120DHC. This was at the Greenwich Concours with the rest of the Jags. I thought I had more of the interior and engine but I don't know where they went. I hope to take some pictures of my XJ6 today.

I snapped a quick picture of the XJ6 last night. Once I have the car squared away, I will have a full photo shoot to do and I will post it in my Gallery.

Thanks for the pics JT, the 'mint' green xk120 sure is perty, those wire wheels sure were popular back in the day.

On your XJ6, are the colormatched surrounds around the headlamps standard? I can't recall seeing those before.

I believe they were but I am not an expert at Jags by any means. I am still learning about them, thus the reason why I joined this forum. I hope to have the car road worthy within two weeks. More pictures to come...
