New member - p1216
Hi, there fellow enthusiast, was on my tablet when I posted initial thread in wrong forum. My apologies for dual post...
First-time post, long-time reader. First and foremost, I'd like to thank everyone in the community. Your posts and commentaries have helped me get from 22 codes down to 6 codes. A lot of the work entailed replacing connectors. Luckily I'm well versed with a soldering gun, long story short I have hit the wall with the repairs.
Here's what I have been able to accomplish...
I started with what my father diagnosed to be a Throttle Position Sensor gone wrong after the vehicle entered the limp mode. Unfortunately, he's 75 yrs old, and living on a fixed income, so needless to say a lot of his attempts to repair included among all things, caulking to fix broken connectors. After I towed the vehicle to a shop, they called me to say hell no we are not touching it. So begrudgingly, I towed it home to find the nightmare.
Took some time but I was able to replace the majority of connectors, MAP, and TPS to name a few, everything was soldered and I used heat-shrink. I purchased a Foxwell scanner recommended on this site and it helped me get to where I am at now.
As the aforementioned title explains I hit the wall with acceleration. Sent it back to my shop, only to have them hit the same wall
Here's what I have replaced
APP Sensor from RockAuto -->
Throttle Body & Position Sensor -->
I purchased 02 sensors, all 4 of them, I also purchased a fuel pump that has not been installed. More importantly, I don't believe the parts that have not been installed would be emitting the specific P1216 code. That being said, based on a post found on this forum, I followed the Pin Test and checked continuity and resistance, to no avail. So off to the shop it went.
Shop called me to tell me two of his best techs were stumped, connectors look good, my splicing looks good, ECM is spitting out codes, but they too could not figure out the problem. The Jag specialist we all knew passed away and his shop closed. Obviously sending it to the dealer is cost-prohibitive.
Here's what I suspect to be the problem. Upon inspecting the old APP sensor I discovered the same as the majority of - burnt contact wires that had been repaired before with soldering, my father says he never touched it, so I just ordered the new one. I believe since the old one was rigged the ECM was regulating the voltage so when the new one was connected it now reads voltage signal too high.
Before I tow the vehicle to another shop, I never got around to doing the ECM reset by connecting the battery terminals. I was hoping someone could shed some light and point me in the right direction more importantly if resetting ECM might solve the problem?
I'm also ordering a new relay, which was suggested on another post with similar problems --->
