Default New Member , Please help with 2001 XJR!!

I'm happy to be in this forum of Jag owners
And can't wait for everyone's advice about my car !

I have a 2001 Jaguar XJR V8 4.0 metallic light blue with white interior , with about 95,000 miles on her .
I purchased her about 2 months ago from Portland ,Oregon as my first jag,
I just instantly fell in love with her.
So i took the jag back home to Tacoma ,Washington in the great northwest and everything was going fine. Until one day I wake up in the morning to start her up and let her earn warm up , and when I come back ready to go to work a check engine light comes on and a PERFORMANCE RESTRICTED light comes and my car is idleing wierd at low rpm's. I mean i love my car everything but its my first jag i know nothing about it ,i do know how to work on cars, and im only 20 years old and maintenance and parts seem to be really expensive for this car. My friends told me that these cars break fast but i was hopinv to prove them wrong becuase of how much i fell in love with the XJR,but im hoping with Jaguar Forums you guys can help with this problem, and help prove my friends wrong

Welcome aboard Nemmy!

Sorry to hear your Cat is behaving badly.... "Bad kitty"....
Hopefully you've been over to the XJR section of the forum with your problem to get info from the brains that know your model! Lots of good folk here that love the Jags as much as you, so they will get you set right in no time...

Once she is up and purring again, consider joining us over in the Pacific Northwests section, or showing up at one of several meet and greets posted there!

Best of luck, and hope to see you both on the road soon!

Vince

Welcome to the forum Nemmy_24,

Sorry to hear about the Restricted Performance issue. Have you had the codes read?

Follow this link XJ ( X308 ) XJ8 / XJR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X308 section for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top there is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You may also like to visit the US Western Region section by following this link Western US - AK CA NV OR UT HI WA ID - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in your region.

I hope it's an easy fix and you're soon back on the road. Enjoy the forum.

Graham

welcome to the forum - follow the links provided and you can't go wrong - the information and support here are outstanding - best tool you will ever find. As Graham suggests - pull codes for a better idea of what may be the cause - if you don't have a code reader - any Advance Auto or AutoZone will read the codes for you - hope you get the issue resolved quickly so you can get back to enjoying the Jag

Welcome Nemmy_24.
Since I have a 2001 XJR too, I think you picked the right model to buy. Sorry to hear about the problem. If you are not mechanically inclined, I would find a good independent Jag mechanic to consult with. These cars, while not bullet proof, are pretty good, and generally reliable if you have taken the time to pick a well maintained car.

Parts from the dealer (any dealer) are expensive, but used Jag parts are reasonable, and lower than what you would pay if you were buying them for a big BMW, or Mercedes. Ebay is a great resource as well.

This forum is a fantastic resource as well - You will learn alot!

Cheers!

I've replaced all the spark plugs and I'm thinking should it get better right away or should I clear the codes and see if it fixes it

The codes will be stored. Now you have them listed, clear them and see if the replaced plugs have fixed any of them. If not, they will come back in two drive cycles.

I wouldn't expect plugs to fix a P0172 or P0174 and fuel or coils are a more regular cause of P0302 and P0303.

It's the coil packs... replace #3 first (passenger side, counting from the front to rear) and see if that cures the problem. That's what happened to me and it fixed it... a few other members have had #3 go out too... don't have a clue why that happens.

Yes mine did a few like that.. none has came back since i replaced it.

Do them all if you want, they're kinda cheap on ebay. Mine works fine. Just make sure you get the right 4 pin connector coils.
