New to forum but not to jag's.
Learnt to drive in 1976 XJ 12L. Dear ol' Dad had a penchant for jag's. Went on to own four all up and I inherited his last the '99 S type.

Love the retro looks, great to drive but now living up to being unreliable.
Will be seeking advice on "gearbox fault" warning and not changing up through the gears in the relevant forum.

Meanwhile its been parked in the carport for just on 12 months until I find a reliable transmission specialist.

Welcome to the forum.

What KM's on the S??

May be as simple as a fluid drop and refill a few times to sort it. Easy enough to do if you are half handy.

Of course the 5R55N may have died due to this "sealed for life" fiasco.

Welcome to the forum, aquacat! Sorry to hear the s-type is giving you grief, but the gearbox (Ford's 5r55N) is not a rare beast, and there are lots of threads on it around here. I personally helped diagnose and get my mom's Lincoln LS (same tranny) repaired, so I have a little experience with it. I hope you find what you're looking for to help you get back on the road!

If you don't have the Ford tranny...please disregard all the above except the welcome and 'good luck' statements.

Default Welcome to Jaguar Forums

Welcome aquacat ... and belated greetings from up on the east coast of the island to your north ... LOL!!!

I look forward to seeing you over on our beloved S-Type section where there is plenty of help and expertise offered. You may find that, with plenty of reading and careful research, the various foibles and quirks of the S-Type can be understood, monitored and managed. You will find that principal among these is the critical demands the electronics places on the battery ... plenty of juice to crank and start the car; but not enough to prevent various control modules from reporting failures, faults and DTCs.

Who knows ... by learning to master issues like this, you may end up with an S-Type as it should be ... gracious, nimble, safe and predictable, and very reliable. I wish you well with your Dad's heritage.

Best wishes Neil ... and if you need help?... Yell!
Ken

Thank you everyone for the welcome. I've had this car for 5 years now and its a lovely car to drive - on and off road (my father used it as a utility! - and there's lots more stories there from over the years! Would dearly love it back on the road!

I will head off to the S -type forums..........
