New member from Texas
Hi
I'm a new member to the forum, although it doesn't feel like it as I've been following it for years. Not new to Jaguar though, in fact I worked for JLR back in Australia at one point. More recently in Texas, my wife and I have owned contemporary Jags - XFs and F-Types for a dozen years or so, and we are active in the local Jaguar owners club. Last year we visited the Jaguar Heritage collection in Gaydon and got to ride in some very cool Jags, which was awesome. If you haven't seen the Heritage collection yet, do add it to your bucket list - it's well worth it, as is the British Motor Museum next door.
Up until now, our modern Jags have been mostly stock and pretty much trouble free, despite being tracked regularly. Now that I have a project car, I figured it was time to actually contribute and not just sandbag!
The "project" car is a newly acquired 2016 F-Type V6 S Coupe with a manual transmission. We had just sold our V8S, and I was actually at my local Porsche dealership looking for a replacement, and noticed an F-Type Coupe they had just traded that morning, and when I saw it was an S with a stick shift I had to have it.
As for the "project", the goal for this car is to make it an above average track car, while keeping it perfectly civilized on the street. I get to drive a lot of different cars from Mustangs to McLarens and everything in between and the thing I think Jaguar does better than any other make is what I call the Jeckle and Hyde factor - the ability to make a comfortable luxury car transform into a half decent sports car with the press of a button. My goal is to turn the "sport" side up to 11, without losing too much of the "luxury" side. It needs to be able to outperform an average Porsche on the track, but still be comfortable enough to drive on a road trip or to dinner without a chiropractor visit the next day, and still look good enough that the valet continues to park it up front.
There are undoubtedly some who may think I'm on a fools errand, but I don't agree. I've designed and built race cars from the ground up, and won championships in them. I've owned, built and driven many different road going track cars over the years, and have instructed at high performance driving events for 20+ years. I've also been tracking a V8 F-Type for years and have already had this V6S manual on the track in stock form. The F-Type is an excellent platform for a track toy.
I will document the build in another thread, but expect to see track tires on a second set of wheels, suspension changes, brake upgrades, functional aero, exhaust system, and of course a sensible power upgrade. First mod is complete - Li battery to replace the truck battery in the trunk - 40 lbs saved, only another 180 to go!
I've already got a lot of good info from reading the forum and I look forward to hearing from those who have also modified their F-Types for the track.
