Default New mkvii owning member from tasmania

Hi all...im a virgin jaaaag owner, soooo,i jump in the deep end,and ended up with a 1953 mkvii project :P.

I dont start off easy, thats for sure.

On the plus side, everything is complete, and in fairly good order...all the wood trim is intact, which im already partway through stripping the old finish, and reapplying some shellac...the leather is badly sundamaged,so a standard retrim is on the cards.

Body is fairly rust free, which is a plus...but she has a few minor battle scars due to a previous owner..but it is easily repairable.

Engine is all complete and in supposedly good order, but I havnt had it started yet..
We have a spark theif living nearby..first the sparks got stolen from my fuel pumps..that was ok,i got under it,cleaned all the contacts, hit it with a hammer, and i found more sparks...problem solvered.

Then..the starter carb got its sparks stolen too...so,after some fiddling and running a jumper wire,i found more sparks again..problem solvered :P.

Well, the other day,I went to have a go at firing it up,and bugger me dead, the spark theif had been back ....this time he stole the spark from my distributer ....Soooo,new coil..no change...points are a bit crappy,so filed them...still nothing...so,at the moment im trying to source a set of ignition points and condensor locally, then will pull dizzy out, strip it down and clean it all up .

Welcome to the forum and welcome to the world of early model Jaguar electrics. Looks a nice car, you have done well finding a non rusty example. Will be great to see it live again.

Dont forget to do an intro/hello in the VIC/TAS regional forum

Cheers

Oh My!! A real live honest to goodness Saloon!! I've only seen those in British movies!

You didn't start with something easy, did you! But the list of vehicles on your signature says you're no stranger to Vintage Iron of any species.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Yea,ive had quite an array of older aussie, american and japanese cars over the last 20 years, those in my signature are my "keepers"...i didnt bother mentioning the vans and parts cars :P

This is my first time owning something from the motherland though ,unless i count my first car,the mini panelvan I had when I was 12 years old :P

Im not new to electrical gremlins...the lifted FJ40 in the background started out as a paddock wreck and rats had ate most of the wiring...this early lucas stuff is new for me though :P...its amazing how far ahead of its time it is compared to the 50s offerings from australia and the US..

Im just waiting on council approval to build my shed, then project jag will be in full swing :P

Welcome to the forum hsv587,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

One of my earliest memories is of being taken for a ride in my grandfather's new MkVII in 1953 but it's more than twenty years since I saw one on the road here in the UK. The Australian climate certainly is a lot kinder to old Jaguars.

I can see you've already found your way to the tech forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Enjoy the forums.

Well, panelvan was a 6...and I also have a very rusty factory 351 V8 panelvan....the 250 crossflow 6 that was in the yellow panelvan is now living under the bonnet of the FJ40 landcruiser in the background, going very well thanks to some headwork, new crow cam, bigger valve springs etc etc.

and the 351 and auto out of the rusty panelvan is almost ready to drop back into the yellow one

yea,im on hobarts eastern shore...risdonvale to be exact..the big jag is a bit of a "fish out of water" compared to most of my buildups over the last few years...but I love everything about it....

To ease the minds of the purists,it is going to be restored to standard, origional condition.
No custom paint,no big wheels,no engine conversions, and im only going to replace the parts I need to...its a survivor, and i want to keep it that way

I believe she is on the western side off of Waverly St. looking across the bay
towards Wellington.

You are doing that Jag a favor bringing it to Original. Looking forward to watching a restoration thread posted here. She is a Car worth saving.
