Default New norwegian member XJ-S 1984 convertible

Hello
Just bought a car (imported from US) that I guess everyone else would have been running away from. It leaks oil and coolant fluid, don't charge, don't run on all cylinders, there is rust, interior is sunburned and the soft-top is not in mint condition.

In other words, this is going to be a bolt & nut restoration.
My son (15) is doing a restoration of a Triumph Spitfire IV.

Other than this, I'm into photography an sailing and my work is about computers and software.

oh, one more thing. Before handing over money for the Jag, I spend 3 hours doing a compression test (ok), cleaning spark plugs and firmly attaching plug cables. The V12 now runs smooth and fine!

Welcome to this friendly Forum - I see you've gone the whole hog and bought a convertible.
I thought it was the Finns that enjoyed beating themselves!!
Anyway here you'll find all the help and information you most certainly will need.

Welcome. Certainly sounds like you've got yourself a project there! Are you going to do a build thread for it?

Welcome to the forum esvanes,

I see you and your son both like a challenge!

Follow this link Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xjs-32/ to the XJS section for help and advice. You'll find other members there who have either completed or are in the process of restorations.

Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User ID button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Enjoy the XJS and the forum.

Graham

Thanks.
Have not thought about doing a build tread, but I might do that. Must do a lot of documentation for my own sake anyway. I'll keep you posted if i do. But it's going to take at least 2 years before the car will be on the road.

If i've done this right, here is a photo of the car still with the seller.
The car looks great, (sure - it's a Jag) but the bad stuff is under the car.
The floor panels have been replaced, but the old rusty floor panels is still there. The new panels are welded on top of the old panels. I don't know it this is the american way of fixing things, but it's certainly not my way. Have to redo this job, plus do some more welding here and there.
There is also some issues regarding the enforcement done when converting this car to a soft-top. I will make another post about that in the proper forum.
