Default new owner of a 95 xj6

Went looking for an inexpensive back up car for the family and I came back with a Jaguar. It's a 1995 xj6 with 106,xxx miles, and it appears to have the basic niggles of broken cup holder, noisy shock mounts, etc etc. The car runs great, but I've only owned it for a day. I'll be putting it up on the lift this weekend to give a thorough once over and tune up. I know it needs coil boots so I'll be doing plugs as well and checking the air filter.
Should I change
O2 sensor?
fuel filter? (this one seems a no brainer, but input is always appreciated)
service transmission? (please add on to previous question)
does it use special fluids for diff, transmission, power steering, and coolant?
what in particular should I look for and what maintenance jobs require special attention.
Thanks in advance

When a car is approaching the age of 20 like your car is, with the mileage yours has, it's expected to have some issues. These can be fixed though, and you'll find lots of knowledgeable people who will be glad to share what they know.

Welcome from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forum gr8punkin,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

Whenever I get a new (to me) Jaguar, I always go through all the items in the scheduled maintenance list to pick up on anything a PO may have overlooked and to give me a baseline for future maintenance tasks. Replacing HO2 Sensors may be OTT if there's nothing wrong with them but you have missed brakes and drive belts from your list.

Follow this link XJ X300 / XJR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X300 forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Southwest Region forum by following this link USA Southwest - AZ TX NM OK - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

You have four of 'em. Persoally, I wouldn't change them until I had a reason to do so.

I'd say 'yes'. When I buy a used car I like to do a bumper-to-bumper service just I know everything has been done....which sounds like the track you're on.

service transmission? (please add on to previous question)

Yes

does it use special fluids for diff, transmission, power steering, and coolant?
what in particular should I look for and what maintenance jobs require special attention.
Thanks in advance

No special fluids required although some prefer synthetic/specialty/boutique fluids and lubricants. I use whatever name brand fluids are on sale that day. Dexron for the trans and p/steering. The diff takes common 80/90 gear lube. My '95 came with ordinary green coolant when I bought it at 30k miles and that's what I've used ever since.

Don't forget to repack the front wheel bearings.

Cheers
DD

gr8punkin, first welcome to JF! I think you'll like it here if you're looking for maintenance help, tips, etc. as well as Jaguar enthusiast discussion. Members here are very knowledgeable on the X300s.

Doug, above, answers your questions well IMO, but I'd add that you should also change your oil and oil filter. Oil threads for our cars can be found on this site.

I would like to thank every one for their quick replies and warm welcomes.
You're correct I excluded brakes and belts since the seller said they were done within the past several thousand miles. Not to mention that is a simple visual inspection. either they should receive attention or they are serviceable.
I have a lift at my house, so I put it up this morning before leaving the house. I have found a greasy mess at the rack and pinion, (so surprise since there was a bottle of power steering fluid in the boot). As well as a greasy mess at the differential starting at the pinion, when I wiggled the prop shaft the pinion moved, so that will need attention as well.
