Thank you for this website, I think I’m going to need it! 199k miles. Just brought it home. The car sat outside in Philly PA for 3 years. At the time it was left, there was a parasitic drain on the battery that was never resolved. We got it started and drove it 4 miles home.

I got it home and disconnected the battery. Next day, I drove it 5 miles to visit the tire shop. Ran fine, then drove another 5 miles to get an oil filter. Fine. Got back in it to come home and get gasoline, and it sputtered and died in 200 feet.

Sparing the reader the gory details, I got a new battery and it started again. Got it home but the voltage across the battery, with the car running, is 11.4V. And the fresh battery is losing voltage fast.

a parasitic drain test shows 880 millivolts. I ordered a new alternator.

I will see if that fixes both problems.

thank you,
tom

Welcome to the forums Tom,

I agree the alternator is suspect.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xj-xj6-xjr6-x300-26/ to the X300 forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the US Northeast Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-northeast-35/ to find other members in your region.

Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.

Enjoy the forums.

Default Thank you!

I did not know about the regional breakouts. This sounds like a great feature. I will post the results of the alternator replacement.

Welcome to the Forums.

Adding to Graham's suggestion, noting this is NOT the Tech Section, BUT, any aftermarket addition should be removed to isolate that drain, very common item/s of parasitic drain.

Good luck
