Default New XF owner

Hello all,

I am James, I currently live in San Jose in California. I have recently been thinking about trading in my 2020 Chrysler Pacifica Mini Van in on a new car. I also lost my wife to cancer about 2 weeks ago. I was looking at all sorts of premium cars, but I decided that as my plan was to move back to the UK in around 2 years anyway I should go for a vehicle that means more that just any old car and I would not have a chance to get when I move. I know buying a brand new car for only a couple of years is a monumental waste of money, but I am using some inheritence I am getting from my mum's estate after she past last November. This lead me to Jaguar, as a kid growing up in the 80's and 90's Jaguar Saloons were a pinnacle car, something to which I would aspire but likely never obtain. Therefore once she passed and I had some time available again I started to look at the XF, if I was going to waste money it may as well be to fullfil a long held desire. I learned that the XF is not only going out of production but basically the dealer stock was all that was available. There was only 1 car spec'd how I would like it in the area so I made the difficult decision to make the deal. This was difficult because I would have prefered to wait a few more months before getting rid of something that was associated with my wife.

I am happy that I did so far the car is awesome I have put around 100 miles on her including my test drive and it is great to be in a saloon again. It is very comfortable, but boy did my insurance go up more than I expected, no big deal just unexpected.

I purchased a 2024 XF P250 in British Racing Green with the Tan interior and bright exterior package, driver intelligence package as well. I have the 19 inch wheels which pictures do not do justice to the look great. I have book the car in to be ceramic coated next week to protect the amazing paint on it.

Very happy so far.

Nice to e-meet you all

Hello, James,
Congratulations on your new Jaguar XF, but I'm so sorry for your loss.
Which by the way, how you handle that is an intensely personal matter where there is no "proper" way, only social pressure, which isn't One Size Fits All.

As for buying a New Car being a waste of money, It's YOUR money, and how you spend it is YOUR business and no one eles's!
I think your reason(s) are Perfectly valid!

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Up until this year, I'd only ever bought "new" pickup trucks because they used to be cheaper than cars and were still sought after as work trucks after the newness wore off. It made some economic sense when I was younger and poorer and a way to have something with a warranty. I bought the X308 and X250 both used because unlike pickup trucks, "new" is a very big factor in luxury cars and thus they depreciate quite rapidly making them a great value. Get a few dings in the paint and wear on the seat bolster and for most "new" luxury car buyers (and most seem to be leased) its time to trade it in. But SOMEBODY has to buy the new Jaguars or we won't have any used ones to choose from (especially from 2024). So welcome aboard and God bless you for buying a new one.
