Newb from east texas
Howdy folks,
I'm not yet a jag owner, but I do have my sights set on either a VDP X300, or an S-Type R. I'm an amateur mechanic who likes to stare at the engine well and go, "yep, something's broken," and then proceed to spend the next six hours researching the ins and outs of that particular vehicle. I run my family's farm of unsuccessful sheep and am finishing up my master's in chemistry. Hopefully will get either one of these cars as a graduation gift to myself. I do have a family of four, so the larger VDP is tempting, but being only 28, the S-Type R is also alluring. Yes, XJR's are a thing, but if I get an XJ, I like the pure space of it. Speed is for a different car. I currently drive a 2000 Ford Excursion (the family vehicle) and a 2012 Mitsubishi Galant (my personal commuter to school). I look forward to learning a great deal about these excellent cars from coventry!

Welcome to the forums turtle65,
The X300 has a reputation as the most reliable of the modern Jaguars. However, it comes down to personal preference and finding the best example of either model.
Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ed-v8-x200-15/ to the S-Type forum and this one https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xj-xj6-xjr6-x300-26/ to the X300 forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' threads at the top of each are a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the US Southwest Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-southwest-37/ to find other members in your region.
Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.
Enjoy the forums and the search for your Jaguar.
