Old as a 57 chevy but new to Jaguars
I've just gotten a 2000 Jaguar xk8 convertible. It looks great but has some issues. Restricted Performance light comes on and it feels like it's running on 6 cylinders. The light comes and goes so I've been doing some homework to solve this issue. As it turns out, many things can create this problem. I charged up the battery as recommended on youtube and it seems to bring new life to the engine for about 20 kms. I was having a "happy pants" time when the dreaded restricted performance issue reared it's ugly head and made me sad. Could it still be a battery issue? I can hope but between coil packs, spark plugs, throttle body issues or all of the above I may be chewing my cheek for a while yet.
Please feel free to chime in folks.

Welcome to the forums woodcarver,

Almost certainly you need a new battery. This alone may resolve the restricted performance issue but the odds are against it. The only way to determine the cause is to have the DTC's (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) read. If you post the codes in XK8/XKR forum, members will decode and advise on required actions.
Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8-xkr-x100-17/ to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.

welcome to the forum - best thing would be to get codes read and post the numbers here for guidance. Don't start tossing parts at it and hope something sticks - you've found the best tool in your tool box with this forum! Once you get it all fixed then the fun happens - enjoy!!

Hello,
Congratulations on your First Jaguar, XK8!
I hope you can get that Restricted Performance issue fixed soon, so you can DRIVE THE WHEELS OFF as the car was intended!
