Parking sensor error
Hi everyone, this is my first post and I'm really grateful to be a member. I've loved jags from a very early age, they are just the most presigeous, luxury cars to own & drive. However, main dealer service centres tend to take advantage of that fact and rip you off with ridiculously high prices for both parts & labour. They want £121 for 1 x sensor!! and that's plus labour at £220 per hour so I'm keen to get stuck in and try and fix it myself.
When reverse is engaged an error message comes on the screen with a continuous tone saying consult your dealer. I've found online how to check if the sensor is faulty (it should click in close proximity) and how to remove the sensor from it's bayonet socket but can anyone advise how to gain access to the rear of the bumper so I can check for lose wiring or to replace the sensor. Does the bumper have to come off?
Thank you in advance
Jim

Welcome to the forum Jim,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
The usual way to access the parking sensors is to remove the bumper. You may be able to access the side ones by removing the rear exhaust but definitely not the centre ones. I don't have the Workshop Manual for the X351 but the diagram in the Parts Catalogue shows the mounting brackets:

The sensors are available from S N G Barratt at much lower cost than from the dealers and on ebay UK for considerably less.

If you decide to go ahead with removing the bumper to replace the sensor, they aren't difficult and will save you a lot of money but it definitely needs two pairs of hands. It's not the weight - they are very floppy once disconnected from the mounting brackets and it's easy to damage the paint.

You could add a second S in your location too. I had to look twice but members in other countries could get entirely the wrong idea!
