Thank you everyone for keeping this website strong in 2019. I'm an owner of my first car, XJ40 Vanden Plas 1990. So far, I've taken it to the Sherman Oaks Exclusive mechanics who specialize in Jaguars and Land Rovers to perform a visual inspection. They found; Air Filter is Dirty, perform oil service, front and rear brake pads at 6mm, found front crank shaft seal leaking oil, found steering rack leaking oil, found engine oil pan leaking oil, found lower ball joint covers are torn and grease is leaking, rear differential leaking oil, front shocks are leaking oil.
But so far no check engine lights or oil pressure lights coming off the dash. It seems to be dried oil but, I have noticed a few drops(3) under the car located on the front of the engine on the right side. Will return to them next week for a Steam Wash for the engine to remove the residue. thats me<3
Still looking for exterior parts like the chrome hub caps, passenger side mirror and visor. Gotta re-glue the sunroof carpet and repaint the hood(or the whole car)
Thank you again everyone who makes this forum function.
Hello,
You got a BLACK one! My Favorite!
Has No One ever told you, ALL Jaguars mark their territory with oil spots on the floor.
In fact, Jaguar is the original reason someone invented those large Drip Pans for under cars. LOL

Wow! hahaha That's a great analogy to it. I hope its not a major issue.
That is an XJ40 with the AJ6 engine, and basically indestructable, apart from stupidity.
The list is "normal" for that age, and a fairly unloved car.
My daughters was like that at 80K kms (18 years ago), and she fixed it all, and now at 285000kms, still belting it around, soooooo, a car that can survive a teenage girl has to be damn good.
Glad to hear you are in good hands at a mechanic that knows the cars. Just be careful with the steam wash to not get moisture into any electrical components. This goes for any car really.
Good to have you with us. The big smile says it all!
I can see you've already found your way to the XJ40 forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
