Roy the Rover turns to Jaguar!
Hello fellow car enthusiasts,
I spent 15 years renovating a 2003 Rover P6 in Cyprus. I thoroughly enjoyed it and my plate (HC 008) pre-dated the invasion of Cyprus and the subsequent segregation between the Greek and Turkish Cypriots and accordingly, my car was always warmly received on both sides of that unfortunate border.
I am now in Dubai, UAE and I have bought a 2005 Jaguar XJ8L. I understand why some of you enthusiasts believe that the pre-2003 XJ was the epitome of Jaguar style. It' was more rakish, with longer overhangs and reminds me of a 1930's J-Class Yacht; absolutely beautiful but heavy and inefficient!
This 2003 to 2009 model you guys have has everything! Style with history, contemporary and traditional but technically modern. Good enough for me to accept that at some point, I am going to hate your air-suspension, but learn deal with it!
Don't like the later models.
Anyway, these are only my personal opinions and as a married (for 35 years) man with two grown-up kids in the UK, I find that my son's opinion (a Mercedes's owner, as I was at times) that I have bought an 'Old Mans Car' somewhat reassuring; that is what I am?
A very long time ago, when I was a young kid, a friend's step-father (an older guy, newly married to my friends drop-dead gorgeous mother) had a Daimler Sovereign 4.2 litre. His step dad would give him the keys and we would floor this beauty in the car park. I have never forgotten this; the style with which the modern Jaguar 4.2 litre picks up her skirts and silently whisks you through the air remains a delight!!
Best regards,
Ray
