S Type Transmission cooler pipes leaking
Hi there, I am new here & (in UK). 2006 Stype 4.2 with only 28K miles. A big thanks to all those members who have offered up solutions to leaking crimped joints.
I am half way through doing mine via splicing in a new length of 20Bar pipe. I've cut the lines where I can get at them at the lowest part of the system. Unscrewed the top pipe at the rad, am going to cut the lower pipe above the upper crimp (reaching the lower radiator union is proving a bridge to far) 13mm ID rubber pipe is perfect and I cannot pull it off a straight cut piece of pipe once clamped. I am using Oetiker clamps (for neatness and ease of tightening) The results so far are positive and once committed has proved fairly easy.
All that is left to say is there is I hope a special place reserved in hell for whoever designed these pipe assemblies so as to ensure that they are impossible to tighten or reach entirely, when a little more design thought would have provided an easy fix be it by Dealer or DIY. If this discipline had been applied across all Jag products then their reputation would not be at the low it is today. Though I suspect as a fellow member commented that CAD has a lot to answer for.

Hello, Tucky,
I am convinced that cars are designed to be Throw-Away items with no thought given to their repair. One is supposed to trade them for a Newer model soon as the ash trays are full of gum wrappers (if cars even have ash trays anymore).
It sounds like you're familiar with our S-type section, so you should probably re-ask over there.
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forums tucky,
Jaguar are by no means unique in this accesibility failing. For a more extreme example, on the Bentley Continental GT the first step in replacing a starter motor is ...... REMOVE THE ENGINE.
It sounds like you've already found the relevant model forum but if not, follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ed-v8-x200-15/ to the S-Type forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the UK & Eire Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/uk-eire-68/ to find other members in your region.
Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.
Enjoy the forums.
Graham

That is why, waaaaay back, we at the Dealership decided the Workshop Manual SRT's (Standard Repair Times), were NOT stated in Hours, but BEER by the Imperial Gallon.
Works for us still today.
Good luck
