Shopping for MY XK
Hi !
I've been researching and shopping for my 1st previously owned Jaguar XK8/R. I have always thought they were gorgeous and have gone from wanting one to needing one. It's an emotional thing - my dad always loved Jaguars but could never afford one, he passed away in December and I will live his dreamwhile I can enjoy it. Expect to purchase a '04/'05 for the value but am concerned about low mile vehicles from retail and independent dealers that are not Jaguar dealers and don't offer 'select' warranties. I have looked at extended warranties from other companies and am hoping jaguar enthusiasts can tell me if all the reviews and quality of jaguar certified is worth waiting for the car I want at a dealer near me or is the XK (low miles - under 30K) a reliable vehicle that doesn't need the extended warranty. I was confident in after market idea on an '04 until a VA jaguar dealer told me "pay now or pay later, but you will pay" when they were trying to upsell me to a later model. Now I'm nervous about a Jaguar purchase. Nonetheless, the car is calling me and I will keep looking until I find the perfect car for me. Hope someone here can offer advice. Thanks so much in advance !

k9luver, here's what I would suggest. Look at other dealers, besides Jaguar, but know that a Jag dealer will often prep, repair, and check those 'trouble' spots that other dealers won't necessarily know about, but it shouldn't be the only factor when looking for a used XK. Some of the dealers offer warranties with low deductibles that are just as thorough as Jags Select Edition, just make sure you get the list of covered and not covered items when you buy it. (seems like I already typed that already today...) Some of those used XKs you may find already has the Select Edition...and all you need to do is PM one of our techs here with the VIN number, and they can tell you if it has one.
Anyway, the XKs seem to me very well built, and a 2004/2005 should last you along time with only the usual repairs. I must admit, i'm only 1 year into ownership of my 2003, but I have found it to be very reasonable on the repairs. I even started a page here to document a years worth of repairs/maintenance, but nobody else thinks the idea is too good, since nobody else added to the thread. I thought new people like yourself might like to see what kind of costs run with the ownership of these cars...XKs, X-types, S-types and XJ models...all alike.
Good luck in the search! any more questions, just add'em here.

Hey there k9 and welcoem to the forums buddy..............nice choice for your first Jag thats for sure

H20 as well as a few other owners will be able to offer very useful advice......pm ing the Jag techs wqith the vin number will also give you a wealth of information about the vehicle that other prospective buyers may not have at their disposal.
Good luck in your quest
Cheers
Jim
The XK is definatly the best combination of sporty, classy, and fun that I can think of out of any car on the market. A warranty is definatly worth looking into, make sure it covers your wheel bearings and all the gaskets, those have been hot spots for my dad
