Default So glad to have found this!

I found this community about a year ago and am so grateful! I’ve learned so much I can walk in to any repair shop with a set of codes and have a real conversation. I’m no Marissa Tomei, but being a female and a blonde, the knowledge and insight I’ve gained here matters, has helped me deal with simple things on my own and find an honest independent repair shop I can depend on, saving me a bundle.

I purchased a cosmetically pristine ‘05 S Type 4.2 on my birthday a year and a half ago. I caught it by chance on its way to retirement after owner #2 took it to a BMW shop and was told it couldn’t be fixed.

I’d always wanted an older one with that amazing graceful profile, but couldn’t justify the inflated prices and alleged lost days being in the shop for every little thing.

This one had a new battery but had to be jump started, and it ran rough with the check engine Light on, but something told me to take a chance. It was even my favorite color 🙄😁😎

I thought for sure I’d need a tow as I limped 5 miles to my local indie Jag shop owned by a neighbor and dropped it off, asking him to give it a good going over so I could decide if I was going to keep her.

I was so excited when he told me the battery was being drained by bad aftermarket sound system wiring and the hesitation was a bad ignition coil. Bill was less than $100 and it drove like a dream.

I got the car for less than half the cost of the tires. I’ve done a bit more work, but it’s been far less than a monthly car payment On a cheap car, and I have this gorgeous car I love driving that gets the same mileage as my old Toyota!

Best birthday present ever!

My “bargain basement” S-Type 😁

Welcome to the forums Susie Q,

Good to have you with us.

I can see you've already found your way to the S-Type forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the US Northwest Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-northwest-64/ to find other members in your region.

I've added vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. If you want to change these, go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

How's your luck finding techs to work on these?
